Jones will provide counsel to Elias and serve as a resource for the Baseball Operations department, including both major and minor league players. He will also be actively involved in community outreach, participating in club-sponsored initiatives like the adopt-a-school program with Harlem Park Elementary Middle School, Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI), and the Challenger League. He will engage with fans, Birdland Members, corporate partners, and front office staff. Jones will begin his new role by joining the Orioles as a guest coach during Spring Training in Sarasota.
“I am grateful for the Orioles relationships I have formed since my retirement, which have led us to this exciting partnership,” said Jones. “Having the opportunity to be around the game that I love, while also learning the operations side of baseball from one of the best General Managers is truly an honor. I am happy to be a resource for the Orioles organization and will offer everything I’ve learned from past experience to help the team succeed. Baltimore has always meant so much to me, and this unique role will allow me to continue giving back to the community I love. This is a special opportunity and I’m eager to embrace it fully.”
Elias added, “Adam was a tremendous representative of the Orioles on and off the field while he was a player. We are excited to formally welcome him back to our team, and we look forward to utilizing his experience, expertise, and perspective to help the franchise achieve sustained excellence.”
Jones, who officially retired as an Oriole on September 15, 2023, played 11 seasons with the team (2008-2018) after being acquired from Seattle. His impressive Orioles career includes ranking among the franchise’s all-time leaders in numerous offensive categories, including at-bats, total bases, runs, home runs, RBI, extra-base hits, doubles, hits, games played, triples, and stolen bases. During his time in Baltimore, he was a five-time All-Star, a four-time Gold Glove Award winner, a three-time Most Valuable Oriole, and a Silver Slugger Award recipient.
Known for his commitment to the Baltimore community, Jones was a three-time Roberto Clemente Award nominee. He actively supported organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Baltimore, the Orioles RBI Program, and the Maryland YMCA, providing both financial contributions and dedicated time to positively impact the lives of Baltimore youth.
