USC, UConn’s Ranking Fortunes Shift in Final AP Women’s Basketball Poll

Paige Bueckers’ final regular-season home game at UConn was a celebration of her remarkable impact, both on and off the court. Beyond her impressive statistics, Bueckers has inspired teammates and fans alike, cementing her legacy as a UConn legend.

The night culminated in her jersey, No. 5, being added to the Huskies of Honor, joining a pantheon of women’s basketball greats. This recognition was a testament to her contributions, as UConn defeated Marquette 92-57. Bueckers, reflecting on her career, emphasized her desire to be remembered as a great teammate and leader, someone who wore the jersey with pride and loved the journey.

On the court, Bueckers continued to shine, scoring 19 points, dishing out seven assists, and grabbing three steals. ¹ Her presence at Gampel Pavilion has been transformative, with UConn boasting a 31-1 record when she plays. She’s averaged 18.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 2.6 steals in her home games, solidifying her status as a program icon.  

The night also honored seniors Kaitlyn Chen, Azzi Fudd, and Aubrey Griffin. Fudd’s future remains uncertain, prompting her to consider her options carefully. Coach Geno Auriemma stressed the importance of players leaving only when they feel fully prepared for the next level. Chen, a transfer from Princeton, and Griffin, who made her first start of the season, have been valuable contributors to the team.

Bueckers’ legacy at UConn extends beyond her on-court achievements. She has set a standard for leadership and dedication, leaving a lasting imprint on the program. As she prepares for the NCAA Tournament and the Big East Tournament, she will have a few more opportunities to shine in front of her home crowd, further solidifying her place in UConn history.
